What is it like to be an intern in London?

Let me introduce myself! My name is Cas Goertzen, and I’m an 18-year-old student from the Netherlands who went to Tti School of English for an internship period of 3 months. I love to play football and go to the gym in my spare time, and like to make new friends! Now my three months in England are almost over, and I’m really sad about the fact that I’m about to finish my internship period at Tti School of English.

I arrived in London on the 1st of September. At the time I arrived, it felt like I was thrown into the deep water without knowing how to swim. I had a lot of concerns about the way of traffic, the different currency, and other points even though I had invested a lot of time in making a clear idea for myself about how big the commitment is of being on an internship abroad.

In my first week in London, I went to school. During this week, I tried to get a better understanding of how working in England is different compared to my home country, The Netherlands. After this week of school, I started my internship at Tti School of English.

When I first walked through the door, I was nervous. I did not know what to expect, and it was a whole new experience. But once I went upstairs to meet my new colleagues, I immediately gained a warm-welcome feeling! I got offered a drink, and they really cared about me as a person (and not only as a colleague.) This immediately took my nerves away! All the staff members were really kind-hearted and had the willingness to help me.

I started to look into the Student Handbook, which is a handbook to give you a better understanding of Tti School of English, and London in general. The content in the handbook really helped me through my time in London!

I also got told that Tti School provides a Social Programme. This is a monthly schedule with a variety of activities every day after school to which Tti School of English recommends going! I went to the Camden Welcome Tour, which Sian recommended me. I really enjoyed it and got a so much better view about my environment! I am really thankful for the support from all of the staff members, and all the kind-hearted teachers.

But the teachers are not the only thing that really helped me through London. I also want to mention the students! Every week new students are coming in, with the result being a (long-lasting) friendship. Everyone can get along, and there’s a great atmosphere within the school! I really enjoyed my time. I went to the Halloween Party with a nice group of students and teachers at Cafe Chula.  I enjoyed the party so much, and we even managed to make a lovely group picture, which will remind me of the great time I had during my internship at Tti School of English!

Even though I was scared of what to expect, Tti School of English and London in general really surpassed all my expectations! I loved exploring new areas and went to see a lot of different things every weekend. I am a big football fan, and my host family was really close to the Wembley Stadium. I went to see the stadium on a big match day, and this was one of my most beautiful experiences because you could really see how crowded the stadium was on an important day!

During my 3 months abroad I was staying in a really kind-hearted host family. They are of Indian origin, and were really good cooks! I really enjoyed my stay, and the host family was located in Wembley, (1 minute away from the stadium!) They also have a lovely 17-year-old cat named Lucky, which was really sweet!

I would love to give a big thank you to all the students and staff members for giving me such a lovely time at Tti School of English. It was an experience of a lifetime, and I would love to go again in the future! I also want to thank my host family for all their care and support!

Thanks to you Cas! It was a pleasure having you work with us! Thanks also for your contribution to our blog! To find out more about our school please visit our website: www.ttischool.com
