This week I interviewed 2 of ours Teachers who are Tti’s Social Programme organisers: Anthony, who has been organising our activities for 3 months and Edward who has just joined him on the Soc Prog team this month
I asked them how they prepare such a great and fun Social Programme!
Me: How do you decide which kind of social activities you want to do during the month?
A.: We are working on a new programme every month: no one month is the same as the next.
Ed: The first point is to decide activities for the next month and to discuss the activities that we have done the latest month: we think if we had worked well and students had worked well. The are particularly activities that students enjoy and we repeat those but not every month.
A.: Also we pay attention to student suggestions for new places to go, places to eat and places to drink and we have a look at some festivals or important dates that we can celebrate, for examples this month we have got Book Day, St. David Day and St. Patrick Day so try to get students to participate at things are British or from the British Islands or happening Globally as well.
Ed.: But most important we want student to enjoy and interact with each other.
We obviously look at making decisions based on price, keeping prices low or free if is possible, we know that money is very important
Me: How can students know which kind of activity is scheduled for the day, week, month?
Ed: We have a colourful and detailed social programme plan which is made to a poster and hung to every classrooms on the notice boards.
Teachers and staff remind students about the activities, they advertise them to the students. During breaks we mention them in the Study Lounge or in the terrace. Also if students want more information they can ask to staff or teachers.
We are using also Social Media as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Me: What are you doing to make these events more interesting/funny?
A.: We try to ask students what they are interested in and we try to repeat those activities. Because we have long term students and they stay with us for many months and also students that are here for a week so we try to do things that are funny and interesting for both.
London has a lot of things to do and to see and a lot of new events happening every week and every month so changing activities is quite easy.
Ed.: Teachers are going with students to these events and they make the difference of course. Our teachers are all young and they all enjoy going out with students and let them keep talking and enjoying. We prepare our social programme thinking in every different interest: someone can be interested in football, others in restaurants, cultural events, so we have a wide variety of activities for every taste.
Me: What makes Tti stand out from other schools?
Ed.: The fact is: we have very active social programme and we utilised Camden, (a lot of people from abroad have heard about Camden), with all its potential of pubs, restaurants, places of interest, events and History to make Tti stand out. Our location is very good and we got close Regent Park, the Zoo, Camden Look, Regent’s Canal, pubs, clubs and restaurants, so generally very quiet and very busy places.
A.:Also the atmosphere at school is very relaxed, there is a sense of community from staff and as well as bigs group of students. So I like to say is a foster community or a social community plus a home from home!
Me: What are the benefits of participating in our Social Programme?
A.: There are several reason to participate in our Social Programme:
1) To Meet new people
2) To discover new places in Camden or in London in general
3) We can show student place that tourist generally do not know
4) To Enjoy more London getting around with other people
5) Practice English in a social and relaxed environment
6) Teacher are with students so they can also help them with their English after lesson hours
7) To feel part of a community
8) Most of the activities are free or very cheap for students!
9) We always find something that can be interesting for students so they can interact more
10)To share with other your cultural habits and know more about other Countries and Traditions
Me: Do you have different programmes for each season? Any ideas for this Spring or summer ?
Ed.:Yes, we have! I mean in Spring and Summer we have more outdoor events such as football, picnic, Bbq, Rounders (similar to Softball), Table tennis competition and so on. Last year we had also a Female football competition!!
Our terrace in Summer is amazing and we use that for some activities but you can also just relax in the sun.
Me:If you have never been to London in Summer you should try it! Is completely different to Winter (which is magic, specially during the Christmas days).
In Summer the days are very long and all the people go out after work enjoying the good weather and friends’s company. Most of the pubs have also a terrace or a garden, some of them with an amazing panorama or views of the Thames! ♥♥

Questa settimana ho intervistato due dei nostri Teacher che si occupano anche di organizzare il nostro attivissimo e mai noioso Social Programme: Anthony, che sceglie per noi le attivita’ da quasi 3 mesi, ed Edward che da poco ha iniziato ad occuparsi di questa importantissima programmazione per la scuola.
Ho chiesto loro come fanno ad organizzare delle attivita’ cosi’ interessanti e divertenti.
Io: Come decidete quale tipo di attivita’ post-lezione proporre durante il mese?
A.:Lavoriamo in nuovo programma tutti mesi: non c’e’ un mese uguale ad un altro!
Ed.:Il primo passo per decidere quale attivita’ mettere in caledario per il mese successivo e’ l’analisi delle attivita’ del mese precedente: ci domandiamo se abbiamo lavorato bene e se lo hanno fatto anche gli studenti. Ci sono alcune particolari attivita’ che gli studenti preferiscono e cerchiamo di ripeterle ma non tutti i mesi.
A.: Prestiamo molta attenzione anche ai suggerimenti, sui nuovi posti dove andare, dei nostri studenti, generalmente si tratta di posti dove si puo’ bere o mangiare qualcosa. Spesso ci sono alcuni festival o importanti date che vogliamo celebrare: ad esempio il prossimo mese avremo St.Patrick, St. David e il Book Day, e incoraggiamo i nostri studenti a paretcipare a queste attivita’ per celebrare tradizioni delle Isole Inglesi come pure feste Internazionali.
Ed.: La cosa piu’ importante, in ogni modo, e’ che i nostri studenti interagiscano l’uno con l’altro. Puo’ sembrare scontato ma cerchiamo comunque di scegliere le attivita’ facendo in modo che queste siano possibilmente gratis o comunque molto economiche.
Io: Come fanno gli studenti a sapere queli sonole attivita’ in programma per il giorno, settimana, mese?
Ed: Abbiamo un colorato e dettagliato schema del Social programme che gli studenti possono trovare in tutte le classi appeso alla lavagna. Lo staff ed i professori ricordano agli studenti quali sono le attivita’ del giorno e della settimana. Durante la pausa delle lezioni passiamo tra gli studenti al bar o nella terrazza e gli ricordiamo quali sono i programmi per la giornata. Il nostro staff e’ sempre disponibile ed informato su quanto e’ in programma e gli studenti possono rivolgersi anche ad essi nel caso abbiamo necessita’ di maggiori informazioni.
Da non dimenticare che usiamo anche divers Social Media come Facebook, Twitter e Istagram.
Io: Cosa fate per rendere questi eventi piu’ interessanti e divertenti?
A.: Cerchiamo di chiedere agli studenti a cosa sono interessati. Abbiamo diversi tipi di studenti: quelli che restano qui con noi per diversi mesi e quelli si fermano per sole poche settimane, in ogni caso cerchiamo di accontentare entrambi con attivita’ divertenti e diverse.
Londra ha cosi’ tante cose da fare ed eventi che si celebrano ogni settimana e ogni mese che ci rende il lavoro molto semplice.
Ed.: I professori accompagnano gli studenti agli eventi e, sicuramente, fanno la differenza! Tutti i nostri professori sono molto giovani ed amano divertirsi e stare con gli studenti e questo e’ un vantaggio per questi ultimi perche’ permettere loro di esercitarsi con il loro inglese e divertirsi allo stesso tempo.
Prepariamo poi i nostri Social Programme pensando a tutti i tipi di interessi: qualcuno puo’ essere interessato al calcio, altri ai ristoranti, eventi culturali, ecc, per questo prepariamo una vasta gamma di attivita’ che possano soddisfare tutti i gusti!
Io: Cosa rende la Tti una scuola diversa dalle altre?
Ed.: Il fatto e’ che noi abbiamo un programma molto attivo e sfruttiamo moltissimo il fatto di essere nel cuore di Camden Town (un sacco di persone straniere conoscono Camden), che ha un grosso potenziale a livello di Pubs, ristoranti, luoghi d’interesse, eventi e storia, questo ci permette sicuramete di distingerci dalle altre scuole.La nostra posizione e’ davvero molto buona e siamo anche vicini allo Zoo, a Regent Park, Camden Look la passeggiata sul Canale, club, ristoranti; Camden ha posti ed attivita’ per tutti i gusti: per quelli che vogliono stare tranquilli nella natura e quelli che voglioni divertirsi in posti affollati.
A.: L’atmosfera a scuola e’ molto rilassata e si respira un senso di “comunita’” sia da parte dello staff che da parte dei gruppi di studenti. Quindi mi piace dire che e’ una grande comunita’ o un posto dove sentirsi a casa lontano da casa!
Io: Quali sono i benefici che si possono trarre partecipando al Social Programme?
A.: Ci sono diversi motivi per parteciapre al nostro Social Programme:
1) Conoscere nuove persone
2) Scoprire nuovi posti a Camden o a Londra in generale
3) Possiamo mostrare ai nostri studenti posti che generalmente non sono conosciuti dai turisti
4) Londra e’ piu’ divertente se la si vive con altre persone
5) Esercitarsi con l’inglese in un contesto amichevole e rilassato
6) I professori sono sempre insieme agli studenti quindi possono aiutarli con il loro inglese anche dopo le ore di lezione
7) Sentirsi parte di una comunita’
8) La maggiorparte delle attivita’ sono gratis o molto economiche per gli studenti!
9) Pensiamo sempre a quello che potrebbe essere interessante per gli studenti in modo tale che loro abbiamo maggiore opportunita’ d interaggire
10) Condividere con altri usi e costumi di alti Paesi
Io: Ci sono diversi programmi per ogni stagione? Cosa prevedete per la prossima primavera/Estate?
Ed.: Si, ci sono diversi programmi! Voglio dire in primavera ed estate abbiamo piu’ attivita’ all’aria aperta come calcio, picnic, Bbq, Rounders (simile al Sofball), pingpong e cosi’ via. L’estate scorsa abbiamo anche avuto una competizione di calcio femminile!
La nostra terrazza d’estate e’ meravigliosa e spesso viene utilizzata per i Social Programme ma anche solo per rilassarsi e godersi il sole.
Io: Se non siete mai stati a Londra d’estate dovreste venirci! E’ completamete diversa dall’inverno (il quale e’ comunque magico durante il periodo natalizio).
In Estate le giornate sono molto lunghe e la gente ama restare fuori dopo lavoro a godersi le gradevoli temperature e la compagnia degli amici. Moltissimi pub hanno terrazze o giardini con bellissimi panorama sulla citta’ o sul Tamigi!♥♥
