Jerome from France studied on our 30+ Course last month. This course is especially designed with more mature students in mind. As well as an excellent tailored made group programme we also offer weekly teacher-led class trips to London’s museums, parks and attractions and weekly guest speakers with Q & A sessions for greater speaking practise. Guest speakers include museum curators, journalists, actors, local politicians, charity workers and entrepreneurs. In this blog Jerome tells us all about Tano a charity worker and the guest speaker talk that he gave to the class. Over to you Jerome……….
This week’s FCE Exam diary entry is written by Moon Joo from South Korea who tells us the latest news from their class.
Make the most of your time in London over the festive period by visiting one of London’s magical Christmas markets. Here are our picks of the best markets giving you the chance to turn Christmas present shopping into a fun day out returning home with lots of original gifts from our wonderful city!
Where do we start? With Camden Christmas Market of course! Our very own world famous local market goes festive every Thursday from now until Christmas. Each week it will have a different theme with a new festive market popping up in the North Yard. The themes are Camden Curates, Alter-Nativity, All Wrapped Up, Stocking Fillers, Deck The Walls and Season’s Eatings. The market will bring together the best gifts from across London as well as live music, delicious food offerings and mulled wine. Look out for this market on our December Social Programme! http://ow.ly/BS3Y306ugck
Another relatively local event taking place is the Christmas Art & Craft Fair at Burgh House in beautiful Hampstead. On Sunday 4 December from 11am – 4pm. This will be a more traditional Christmas Fair with plenty of arts, crafts and activities to get involved in. This promises to be a great place to pick up handmade and vintage Christmas cards. There will of course be the obligatory mulled wine and mince pies.
The Christmas Canopy Market is another local offering and takes place this weekend (25 – 27 November) in Kings Cross. Here you will find some of London’s finest designers, producers, artisan food makers and ethical traders.
The largest Christmas event in London which seems to get bigger each year is Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. This market is a must for any visitors to London over the next few weeks. Attractions include Zippo’s Christmas Circus, ice skating under the stars, the Giant Observation Wheel and the Magical Ice Kingdom. There are also plenty of fairground rides and 200 chalets to browse in the Angels and Fairies Christmas Market. Opens 10am to 10pm daily until Jan 3. Look out for this market on our December Social Programme! http://ow.ly/BS3Y306ugck
Another popular and large market is the Southbank Centre Winter Market. It takes place from Friday 11th November 2016 – Sunday 8th January 2017. Along with the market you can also get involved in the South Bank Winter Festival. Where you will find lots of lovely activities for all ages including: the BUMP Rollerdisco and the NoFit State circus; as well as the Big Band Winter Karaoke and loads more besides! Definitely worth a visit.
Our final pick is Covent Garden Market! We LOVE walking through this market at any time of the year but at Christmas it is extra special! The beautiful Christmas tree in the piazza and the stunning decorations in the Market Building really get us into the Christmas Spirit! This year for the first time you can meet Santa in his interactive grotto or you go on an augmented reality treasure hunt to find eight reindeer hidden around Covent Garden. Sounds like fun!
We are sure that you will find some great gifts at these markets as well as having a great time in our fabulous city at this magical time of year! Happy Shopping!
