9th February is National Pizza Day. And the only proper way to celebrate this day is with pizza, of course! Our in-house foodie and carb enthusiast Marianne lists all her favourite places in Camden where you can get the internationally loved Pizza. And some pizza facts to keep you entertained while you make the decision.
Over 5 billion pizzas are sold worldwide each year
When it comes to food in general, Camden is certainly spoiled for choices with great pizza places everywhere. Most pizza places around here belong to a chain, but that doesn’t mean taste or quality are compromised. Let’s break it down, shall we?
Best Value for Money
Icco – A favourite amongst our students here at Tti, Icco’s 5 pound pizzas are, understandably, popular. The cost is low so don’t expect fancy ingredients, but thin crust, tasty, simple and delicious toppings, great for a lunch-time carb craving or something to eat before a night out. https://icco.co.uk/
Pizza Express – One of the largest pizza chains in London (it’s everywhere!) Pizza Express can afford to offer some of the best deals around. If you’re an O2 customer or example, you can always have a pizza for a fiver at Pizza Express and they often have 25% or 50% off during lunch time and weekdays. The pizzas are thin and crispy and the flavours very creative. And if you’re watching your weight you can have their skinny pizzas, where they substitute some of the dough for salad and the whole thing is under 500 calories. Winner! https://www.pizzaexpress.com/our-food
The world’s fastest pizza maker can make 14 pizzas in 2 minutes and 35 seconds.
Best of best
Rosso Pomodoro is my favourite of all the chain pizzerias in Camden. The restaurant delivers all the goods from the Naples region with an extensive and varied menu featuring all the classic starters, pizzas and pasta from the home of pizza. The service is friendly and they also run pizza-making courses for those wishing to get their hands on the dough. http://rossopomodoro.co.uk/
The largest pizza ever made was at the Norwood Pick’n Pay Hypermarket in Johannesburg, South Africa. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the pizza was 37.4 meters in diameter and was made using 500 kg of flour, 800 kg of cheese and 900 kg of tomato puree. This was accomplished on December 8, 1990.
Best to see and be seen
Franco Manca – Very popular, good value for money and with a dedicated hipster fan base, Franco Manca started with one solo restaurant in Brixton and has now over 40 restaurants all over London. It popularised the sourdough dough, a favourite hipster ingredient, and its effective service, no-frill attitude and simple and delicious offerings conquered the hearts of pizza lovers in the city. It’s not exactly in Camden but it’s just down the road in Kentish Town. http://www.francomanca.co.uk/
Pizza Deliverers claim women are better tippers.
But Camden is not only chain pizzas. Local, friendly and family run, White Kitchen on Camden High Street is Tti’s place of choice to go to, not only because they serve decently-priced, thin-crust discs with delicious toppings, but also because it belongs to one of our former students and we love to support our community!
So, what are you waiting for?
