TopUp Learning - Code of Conduct

This document ensures a safe and respectful environment for students of all ages, protecting both staff and students from behaviours that could be considered offensive, whether in-house or online.

TopUp Learning is committed to safeguarding students of all ages. We have established rules to ensure that students and staff can work and study in a secure, respectful, and inclusive environment. All students and staff are expected to follow these rules.

School Rules

Do:

• Speak English at all times.
• Be on time for class.
• Be kind, respectful, and friendly towards other students and staff. Report any bullying or harassment to the appropriate staff member.
• Look after your personal belongings and be mindful of the school's property.
• Keep your room tidy if staying with a host family (in-house students).
• Save the emergency contact number: +44 7456 314794.

Don't:

• Smoke, drink alcohol, or take drugs.
• Chew gum in school.
• Use your phone during lessons (unless it's part of the class activity).
• Eat in classrooms unless directed by your teacher.
• Damage school property.
• Bring nuts or nut-based products to school or shared residential accommodations.
• Bully or harass others or show abusive behaviour.

For Under 18s (Junior Students):

• Never arrive at your accommodation later than the curfew time.
• Never smoke, drink alcohol, or take drugs anywhere.
• Never leave school boundaries without permission or supervision (for those in camp or junior school).
• Never leave accommodation boundaries without permission or supervision (for those in residential accommodation).
• Inform the school if you are going to be late – through the emergency number.
• Contact the school through the emergency number if you are lost.

Mutual Respect

All students at TopUp Learning are expected to demonstrate awareness of others' needs and sensitivities. We ask all students to be polite, supportive, and fair to one another, as well as to staff, both in-house and online. We aim to create a safe environment for all, rooted in mutual respect.

Dress Code

Students are expected to dress appropriately for a school environment. While we encourage comfort, students should keep in mind that TopUp Learning is a multicultural environment, and should dress in a way that does not cause offense to others. Younger learners may be impressionable, and students should be mindful that their clothing choices may influence others.

Use of Social Media and IT

We aim for our social media to have the same supportive, educational, and friendly atmosphere as the school. However, it is important to recognize the risks of social media, including grooming, radicalization, identity theft, and bullying.

Students are encouraged to use mobile phones and tablets for learning English. Teachers may ask students to use them for specific class activities, but they should not use them for making calls or unrelated activities during class time. Recording or videoing any lessons is strictly prohibited. Please read our E-Safety Policy for more detailed guidance on using social media and IT.

Behaviour

Remember, whether you are in-house or online, you are in a school environment. While we strive to create a friendly atmosphere, your behaviour should always remain appropriate. Everyone in the UK is treated equally, and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination based on gender, race, nationality, religion, sexuality, or disability. We expect all students to treat everyone with equal respect.

If you are an in-house student, remember that you represent TopUp Learning London when you are outside the school building, whether during organized activities or unsupervised. Your behaviour should not tarnish the school's reputation.

Alcohol and Drugs

If you are under 18, you are not permitted to buy alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco products, or e-cigarettes in the UK. Students must never be under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs while on school premises, including accommodations. This would be considered misconduct and may lead to being asked to leave the school without a refund.

The possession or use of illegal drugs is a serious matter, and if discovered, we are required to report it to the police. Smoking is only permitted in designated smoking areas.

Personal Relationships

TopUp Learning prides itself on its friendly, relaxed atmosphere; however, all staff members hold positions of trust. We do not tolerate intimate relationships between staff and students of any age.

For adult students, please note that some of our adult students may be aged under 18. Intimate relationships between students in this age group and those aged 18+ are illegal in the UK and should be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Staff (DS).

Sharing Information

We strongly recommend caution when sharing personal information with other students. Do not request or share staff contact details (e.g., phone numbers, emails, or social media handles). Staff are not allowed to share personal details with students under any circumstances.

Bullying or Harassment

TopUp Learning does not tolerate bullying or harassment in any form. For further details, please refer to our Bullying and Harassment Policy.

Additional Requirements for Accommodation

• Respect your host family or accommodation staff, follow their rules, and respect their religion.
• No visitors are allowed without permission.
• No smoking, vaping, alcohol, or drugs inside the accommodation – only in designated smoking areas.
• No loud music or noise.
• Cooking is not allowed in homestay accommodations.
• Must follow the curfew rules as shown below.

Students coming as part of a Group or Camp are required to:

• Always follow the rules provided by the group and school leader 
• Will not go outside the designated area
• Not leave the accommodation without permission
• Follow the curfew time set by the group and school leader

• Curfew time for RAAS Summer Camp is 9:30pm to 7am regardless of the age of students.

2) TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

An arrival and departure private transfer is strongly advised for all students aged 16 and 17 or under. Students under the age of 16 must have an arranged private transfer. Transport is usually included for those coming as part of a group. 

We use a reputable transfer company. Your son/daughter will be met at arrivals and taken directly to their home stay accommodation. On receipt of all arrival details we will send you a confirmation of the transfer outlining the procedures in place to ensure that your child gets from the airport to their accommodation safely.

If you choose not to book a arrival/departure transfer for your child you should be aware of the following issues:

• Immigration officers (passport control at the airport) may not allow a child with no- one at the airport to greet them to enter the UK
• Your son/daughter will be travelling on public transport to an unfamiliar location. Please ensure you have checked the journey from the airport to the host family together before they fly. Also, ensure they have our emergency telephone number so we can assist, if required.

3) MEDICAL DETAILS

It is very important that the school and host family are made aware of any illnesses that your son/daughter suffers from, including the medication they are taking. This includes both physical (for example, diabetes, allergies etc.) and mental (depression, anxiety etc.).

Parents - by signing this form you are agreeing that you have told Tti all important medical information regarding your son/daughter's.

Please note, if we are not informed of a health issue during the enrolment process, on arrival we will review their application to ensure we can provide the right level of care.

4) SOCIAL PROGRAMME ARRANGEMENTS

Our Social Programme offers teacher-led activities Monday-Thursday each week. Friday and the weekends are free-time for the students and they are unsupervised. All activities are encouraged but they are not obligatory. Our Social Programme includes activities suitable for all age groups. When activities are held in premises that serve alcohol Under 18s are not allowed to join under any circumstances. In July and August (peak period at TopUp Learning London (Tti)) there will be a suitable activity arranged for those aged 16/17 and lower from Monday-Thursday.

Students coming as part of a group may have additional activities during the week and weekend.

5) SCHOOL RULES

These are important rules your son/daughter must understand before joining our course. They will be explained in greater detail by our staff when they arrive.

• For class be kind and friendly to other students and report any bullying or harassment to the appropriate staff member
• Join in all the lessons and activities
• Look after your belongings and the school
• Keep your room tidy if staying with a host family
• Have your Tti Student Card with you at all times

6) STUDENT WELFARE IN SCHOOL

I understand that:

• my son/daughter will come into regular contact with other students over the age of 18, in class and during the leisure programme
• he/she is responsible for buying their own lunch during the week
• there are certain British laws (e.g. related to smoking and drinking alcohol) that apply to people aged under 18. As a consequence, there may be some leisure activities which my son/daughter cannot take part in because of their age.

Please note that students need to make provision for their own lunch arrangements. There is no onsite canteen or cafeteria. For lunch students can use one of the many cafes near the school, or they can get sandwiches from the nearby bakery, Melissa’s (94 Camden High Street), or Pret A Manger & EAT (opposite the school) or even something from the nearby supermarkets Sainsbury’s (cheapest), Waitrose or Marks & Spencer (most expensive).

Students coming for RAAS Summer Camp or full day juniors will have lunch included if it is part of their package.

7) SOCIAL MEDIA AND IT

Please read our E-Safety Policy with your son/daughter. This includes details on the risks of Social Media and online. There are our recommendations and guidelines to protect your son/daughter online.

8) INSURANCE RECOMMENDATIONS

We recommend that students all take out insurance prior to travelling. This is not a service that we offer at Tti School. Tti School of English is a member of English UK. 9) LAWS IN THE UK

The laws in the UK may be different from those in your home country. This especially applies to the use of tobacco and alcohol.

Students must not have drugs with them (unless prescribed by a doctor) or use any illegal drugs, including cannabis, ecstasy, LSD or amphetamines. It is illegal to carry any sort of weapon including knives, self defence sprays, guns or stun guns.

You must be over 18 to buy tobacco. You must be 18 and over to buy alcohol. Never buy something that you think might be stolen (a mobile phone, DVD etc)

10) TopUp Learning London (Tti) - CONTACT DETAILS

Outside office hours you can contact a member of staff on +44 7456 314794. This phone is with our DSPs (those responsible for the wellbeing and safety of students) out of office hours.

11) DATA PROTECTION LAWS IN THE UK

A photo of the student will be taken on the first day of classes in order to give him/her the student card. I understand that this is part of the first day procedure and I give consent to have my child's photo taken for this purpose.

Also to comply with data protection laws in the UK, please read and agree to the conditions regarding the use of photographic and video images by TopUp Learning London (Tti). TopUp Learning London (Tti) may use your child's image in materials aimed at the school community ( brochures, newsletters, social media platforms, blog posts), on the school's website, in the background of photos of other students and/or social programme activities . By signing this document I agree to this.

I allow my child to travel alone to and from the school (please see the restrictions and curfew table).

Groups and Camp students are required to follow the group requirements and group leader’s instruction at all time
