Student Welfare for 16 and 17 Year olds

TopUp Learning London (Tti) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of everyone, particularly those aged 16–17. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place both on- and off-site to support everyone at the school (including, but not limited to, staff, students, host families, and group leaders). All staff share this commitment and act accordingly.

TopUp Learning London (Tti) primarily caters to students aged 18 and above. While we welcome students aged 16 and 17, it should be noted that we cannot provide 24-hour supervision. If students are not staying with a relative or family friend, they will be required to stay in half-board homestay accommodation arranged through the school.

We ask that parents or guardians of students aged 16 and 17 read our ‘Notes for Parents and Guardians of Students Aged 16 & 17 Studying at TopUp Learning London on Adult Courses’ before enrolling their child. This will help you understand what to expect when your child comes to study with us.

Advice for 16 and 17-Year-Olds

We have a Code of Conduct for all students that provides advice and support about studying with us and staying in the UK. You can download it from:

Travel for 16- and 17-Year-Olds

Students aged 16 or 17 coming to the UK will need a completed Letter of Consent to Travel. Please download it from the same link above or request it via email.

Consent Form for 16- and 17-Year-Olds

Parents/guardians of students aged 16 or 17 must complete a Parental Consent Form, which includes curfew times. Please adhere to our guidelines when setting these. This form must be submitted at the time of booking. A sample version is available for download.
Note: We cannot issue enrolment documents until this form has been received.

TopUp Learning London (Tti) primarily caters to students aged 18 and above. While we welcome students aged 16 and 17, please understand that we do not provide 24-hour supervision. Students under 18 will study in classes with adult learners.

  • Your child will travel between the school and their homestay unsupervised.

  • Your child will not be supervised during their free time (e.g., breaks, lunchtime, and after lessons until returning to the homestay).

  • The school has a curfew for students under 18. This information is available on the Parental Consent Form and via our website.

The school’s social programme is optional and not specifically tailored to under-18s. Some activities may be unsuitable for younger students. However, we do offer evening activities that are appropriate for this age group. All social events are supervised by staff, but students are responsible for arranging their own transport home. We strongly recommend that students aged under 18 return to their homestay accompanied by a friend or by taxi, especially after dark.

During July, August, and some other periods, the school organises full-day excursions (e.g., on Saturdays). These are supervised by school staff, but students will be unsupervised for parts of the day. On the Parental Consent Form, you can indicate which activities your child may participate in.
Please note: We also sell tickets for excursions operated by external companies, but under-18s cannot participate in these as we cannot guarantee adequate supervision.

Lunches Are Not Included in the Fees

The school does not have a restaurant. We offer free tea, coffee, snacks, and fruit. Most students purchase lunch from a nearby supermarket (2 minutes away) or local cafés and takeaway outlets.

Students are responsible for their own midday meals, so please ensure your child has sufficient money for lunch and transport around London.

We send a comprehensive price guide (covering snacks, drinks, lunches, transport, etc.) with the enrolment documents.

We also strongly recommend that parents arrange a return taxi transfer for 16- and 17-year-olds to avoid any problems upon arrival in the UK.
All students under 18 must bring a completed Parental Travel Consent Form with them. This can be accessed via our website or requested from the Registrar.
